PREMIERE Co-production "They're Off and Running" by Ogutu Muraya
The new piece follows the evolution of long distance and endurance running in East Africa since the 1960s. It is a performance installation that features a performer running 22.6 km on a treadmill while the impacts of running on the body determines the visualization portrayed on two screens in the back of the treadmill. The content of the screens is a set of visualizations brought together by a software that takes up physical impulses of the runner through sensors placed on his body. The piece layers physiological data with storytelling, documentary and historical material to trace the intricacies of the politics of vulnerability and resilience.
