Sebastiano Sing is a choreographer and performer. Since 2014, his work has been shown in London, Lisbon, Belgrade, Stuttgart, Munich, Venice and Vienna. As a performer, he has appeared at the Biennale Teatro as well as the 56th Venice Art Biennale, Wien Modern, steirischer herbst and Wiener Festwochen. He has worked with Miloš Lolić, Gisèle Vienne, Dora García and Christopher Rüping, among others. In the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons, he was assistant director at the Volkstheater in Munich. In 2020 he received the Startstipendium für darstellende Kunst, awarded by BMKÖS, and in 2021 the prestigious danceWeb Scholarship at ImPulsTanz – Vienna International Dance Festival. For MATHIEU he received a TURBO Residency in 2022, also at ImPulsTanz.

“Hurray, we’re still alive!” In his new piece MATHIEU, Sebastiano Sing recognizes shamelessly grand emotion as the common denominator of the hit parade and Tanztheater and, in that, creates a new genre: “Dark Schlager” is born. With dancer Hugo Le Brigand and sound artist Ernst Lima, the Vienna-based choreographer-performer soars up into the highest heights of low art, getting at our most unspeakable and universal “guilty pleasures” of them all: the desire not to be alone.
