Balázs Oláh
Artistic Exchange Residency 2025
Balázs Oláh was born in Budapest in 1994. He began his dance training with folk dance and then graduated from the Hungarian Dance Academy with a degree in folk dance. In 2018, he received a scholarship to study at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD). He currently works as a freelance dancer.
As a young artist, he has participated in various performances by choreographers such as Máté Mészáros, Patrik Kelemen, and Csaba Molnár, as well as in pieces by the Tünet Ensemble and Hodworks. In the fall of 2024, he and Nóra Horváth presented their piece BÁL, and in the same year, he completed his training in stone carving at the Pap stone carving Workshop in Szentendre. Since 2025, he has been working with Balázs Ágoston Kiss.
His artistic practice ranges from dance performances to interdisciplinary collaborations and participation in the AHA Kollektíva artist group. He leads folk dance and party-themed workshops with Júlia Vavra and Gergő D. Farkas, and mulatós dance workshops with Nóra Horváth.
Balázs Oláh is visiting Moving in November Festival 2025 in the frame of an Artistic Exchange Residency.

Open Studio by Balázs Oláh
Balázs is working at Eskus during his residency in Helsinki and invites to an open studio installation, accompanied by a discussion about the Hungarian art scene:
In collaboration with Moving in November, Eskus and TINFO, will arrange a discussion about the situation of performing arts in Hungary today, asking: how do artists operate under political pressure, and how can international cooperation and solidarity strengthen artistic freedom? The discussion will be hosted by Linnea Stara from TINFO, and Balázs, together with researcher Katalin Miklóssy, will be taking part in the discussion. The audience is invited to listen, ask questions and participate in the discussion. The discussion will be held in English. Admission is free.
