Bau

Bau is our new network partner in Amsterdam. Bau believes in the value of experimental creators in the performing arts: dance, performance, mime, and other live arts in which movement plays a central role. They often work in an interdisciplinary manner, combining movement with other art forms such as music, visual arts, and architecture. These artists are astute and progressive. They find new forms of body language and use of space with which they set social issues in motion, even before they become the subject of public debate.

Bau offers space to develop, deepen, and present work in the research phase of a new project. The programme of residencies, labs, and activities creates a safe environment in which artists can take risks, fail, and start again. Here, work is created, developed, and tested before finding its way to theaters, museums, festivals, and public spaces—locally, nationally, and internationally.

Bau offers artistic coaching and encourages encounters and reflection with the public. In collaboration with a broad network of artists, thinkers, and cultural organizations, including long-standing partners Greenhouse—the Amsterdam development network of Boogaerdt/VanderSchoot, Keren Levi|NeverLike, Nicole Beutler Projects, and Bau—De Appel, Frascati, The Grey Space in the Middle, TILT, and WhyNot—cross-connections and opportunities for development and presentation arise.

With Bau as a catalyst, meaningful, urgent, and groundbreaking art practices emerge that continue to innovate the field of dance and performance.
