Noha Ramadan
Creative Crossroads Cycle Two 2025–2026
Noha Ramadan (they/them) is an Egyptian-Australian choreographer, performer and educator. Drawing from a long and continuing practice of dance improvisation, they make performances and organise collective events with other artists. After studying music and political economy, they moved to Amsterdam in 2005 to study at DAS Choreography and the School for New Dance Development.
Noha’s work utilises a distinctly cinematic and poetic language which attempts to articulate the body’s capacity for multiplicity and change. Questioning the premise of our shared reality, their work is underscored by a love for language, fiction and formal experimentation.
In 2017, they co-founded Jacuzzi, an artist-run space in Amsterdam, where they organize and support various projects. Noha was selected for Mophradat's 2023-2025 consortium commissioning project and will premier AfterMyth (and we shimmered as we crossed from one reality to another) - a 3 screen video and dance work, in Alkantara Festival in Portugal in November 2025.
"I am deeply fascinated by the tools and poetics of rhetoric, and despite or maybe because of this I find it important that my work is actively suspicious of its relationship to systems of knowledge and power - the frame, the market, the stage, the academy. I try to create situations which can fracture and transform, inviting the childlike, the strange and the mythic. For me, these fictional figures represent a mode of existence that is not flattened by the temporal and semiotic pressures of capitalist efficiency. I wish instead to valorize a life-force which is slippery, playful, critical of its own self-interested positions and engaged in noisy cohabitations of difference."

AfterMyth (and we shimmered as we crossed from one reality to another…)
Performance / Installation
A shadowy figure grapples with a fragmented mythology of ghostly spaces and their guardians.
Projected across three silver screens, masked figures dance on a desolate, snow-covered beach. Set in an unnamed, ambiguous future, their ghostly cheerleading, pas-de-bourees and navigational gestures appear as remnants of a world that has ended.
As the dance loops endlessly on screen, other appearances loom in the darkness of the theatre.
AfterMyth is a shimmering descent into the interior world of a shadowy figure grappling with monumental forces and narratives. Drawing inspiration from Rita Lucarelli’s notion of ‘doorscapes’ - a term used to describe the many gates and guardians depicted in Egyptian funeral iconography - Noha Ramadan proposes a choreography of images and voice in motion. Through the cinematic language of a pop-horror dream-sequence, AfterMyth explores shared notions of loss and transformation, and searches for what comes to life in the gap between the frames.
