For States of bewilderment, Alina Arshi gets together with performer Juliette Uzor. And it is precisely this act of “coming together” that lies at the heart of the piece: how the contradictions already at play within each individual body multiply in the attempt to draw closer to one another; how they confuse, entangle and frustrate to the point of despair, yet sometimes, just perhaps, also bring clarity – through an attentive, physical encounter that defies description in words. Following up on the success of her first work, the celebrated solo Entepfuhl, Arshi’s intentionally “non-spectacular and non-narrative” duo States of bewilderment confirms the performer-choreographer as an incredibly exciting and unique artistic voice.
