Make it Count
The human body as metronome, driving the beat, refusing to let up. In Make it Count, the choreography functions as its own soundtrack. Vienna-based violinist and performer Matteo Haitzmann expands traditional notions of musical composition, dedicating an entire piece to an unusual trio of instruments: the modular synthesizer, the extended drums and – the skipping rope. Together with two wonderful musicians (Arthur Fussy on synthesizer and Judith Schwarz on drums), he puts on a special kind of choreographic concert: from the rope, Haitzmann manages to elicit an idiosyncratic, driving sound via microphone-outfitted floors, aerodynamic drag and full physical exertion, a sound which can’t be separated from the dance that is its cause.
