“Changes are shifting outside the word”, Annie Lennox sings in her melancholically hypnotic No More “I Love You’s”. They shift in the realm of the unsaid, in the body, or: between bodies. CUTE & AWKWARD is how the performers in Wojciech Grudziński’s “solo act performed by two” encounter each other. Besides Lennox, the piece takes “Fantom”, the first gay cruising bar in post-communist Warsaw, as a cultural reference point. The dance floor becomes a place of negotiation between dreams of escape into the intimacy of two and the magnetic pull of societal circumstances: “How to disappear and remain present at the same time?” Together with co-performer Lucas Lagomarsino, Grudziński creates a choreography which follows “a gesture of being moved rather than moving.”
