Helén Tamaskó is a dancer, choreographer, and dance teacher based in Budapest. Her artistic curiosity lies at the intersection of everyday experiences and speculative imagination. Her latest work was inspired by contemporary ecological thought, feminist and futurist literature, as well as the experience of alienation and the apocalyptic present.

“I scan the space; I’ve arrived in an unknown world. I’m stuck in a phase just before waking, and only distant lights and faint sounds seep into my consciousness. I’m on my own. The lights grow stronger, illuminating my body. I open my eyes. A lifeless, desolate landscape is around me. The lights urge me to take a step. The step becomes movement. Movement becomes determination. Time stretches, space expands. I am no longer myself; I have been transformed. I close my eyes and set off.”

The solo performance hunt:malfunction depicts the process of self-discovery of a transient being in a post-apocalyptic world. The path to self-discovery is expressed through the imagery of a hunt, which gravitates from an external source toward an internal destination. In this fictional world, nature and society, as well as organic and artificial elements, collide and define the laws governing the space and its environment.

The performance brings together dance, sound, and the visual arts, and invites the audience into an imaginary world that feels familiar yet foreign. Here, sensations transcend understanding, and meanings emerge at the intersection between the body, space, and the audience’s imagination.
