The Burgeoning: Motion Pictures

LLB Co-Production 2026

Developed site-specifically for mumok’s basement white cube, The Burgeoning takes Edward Muybridge’s famous locomotion studies from the 19th century as a point of departure for an elaborate setting as well as a fluid space. Together with electronic music producer rRoxymore, set designer Stephanie Rauch and light designer Catalina Fernandez, choreographer, filmmaker and dancer Ian Kaler explores the relationship between real-time composition, light and the maelstrom of a gradually building industrial, cinematic and ambient techno soundtrack. After some time of exploring the relationship between movement, storytelling and narrative, Kaler creates in his new solo a dance full of intensity. A dance between introspection and captivating exertion. The Burgeoning: Motion Pictures is an attempt to shape and let movement be – as embodied prose, as poetry!
