Maira Horváth
On The Outset 2026
Maira Darja Shirin Horváth (b. 1998 Vienna), moves between Hip Hop Jams, Performing Arts and something Maira refers to as shared-education. Their practice explores spaces of chaos and togetherness through rhythms that nurture and therefore challenge. Central to Maira’s works is a strong understanding of what a space or process needs and their creativity flourishes in responding to those needs, allowing Maira to take on a versatile range of roles within each project.
They graduated in 2024 with a BA in Expanded Contemporary Dance from the Amsterdam University of the Arts, where their thesis The Anti-Capital-Colonial Toolbox – Creating Spaces that Provide investigated restful-doing as an alternative mode of artistic production, while previously, Maira studied Philosophy at the University of Vienna.
Their international collaborations include projects with Mario Lopes (BR), Hungry Sharks Company (AT), the Biennale São Paulo, Festival WHYNOT and the Museum of Modern Arts Rio. Their collaborative video-work within the FLINTA* Freedom Fighter Platform CRYSIS was awarded at CineDans Festival Amsterdam (2023).
Currently, Maira is choreographically and dramaturgically collaborating with Ugnė Irena Laurinavičiūtė for the solo work ON SEEN, which is premiering on 3–4 August 2026 at Contempo Festival (LT). Alongside this, they continue to deepen their practice, dialogue, and teach within the Hip Hop scene, while this summer, in the frame of On The Outset, Maira is part of the coordination Team of the 2026 ImPulsTanz scholarship programmes danceWEB, ATLAS and ImPacT.
